I Heart Fertility!

I get this newlywed e-newsletter called “The Nest,” and generally it’s okay. There’s some practical advice–money, moving, communication, etc. However, I’m usually offended or not interested in their “Love” section which features sex Q&A that’s not very liberal or diverse, i.e., they don’t talk about natural methods of family planning. But GUESS WHAT I FOUND ON THE READERS’ COMMENT SECTION!? Check it out:

“My husband and I have been practicing a less widely know form of birth control for over a year now, NFP (Natural Family Planning), and are completely satisfied. You won’t see it advertised because there are no pharmaceutical nor manufacturer companies marketing this scientific DIY method. The benefits far out way the negatives: It’s something we can do as a couple, I no longer have to take hormones, and we now understand so much more about my body and menstrual cycle. Not only does it help keep us from conceiving before we’re ready, but it will let us more easily become pregnant when the time comes; because: I won’t have to wait for my body to recover from the effects of an estrogen birth control and we know when I’m most fertile. The negatives? Learning how to do it, taking your temperature daily, and being more observant about your bodily functions. NFP is NOT the rhythm method, which is neither scientific nor effective.”
