Belated Holy Family Day

I was resting from blogging Sunday, but wanted to share a great homily on the feast of the Holy Family, December 27 this year by Fr. Robert Barron (h/t to Fr. Jason Cargo for the link).
I also went to Mass tonight at the Denver Cathedral, and Archbishop Chaput gave one of the most rockin’ homilies on family life that I’ve heard–covering the gift of fertility, the suffering of infertility, the ills of contraception and IVF, encouraging vocations in the family, and a word to families touched by divorced (and much more). When that gets posted online, I’ll give you the link.
UPDATE: Archbishop’s Homily from Holy Family is now posted here!

Jess, I just wanted to tell you that we used to live in the Denver Area- Highlands Ranch actually. And that every Sunday, we trecked 30 minutes to Denver to listen to our beloved Arch Bishop Chaput. He is so amazing and we miss him and his homilies. Thanks for this website and for the information you left on my blog. Your ministry is so important! God Bless You!
Thanks so much Sarah for your motherhood and faithfulness. Don’t you miss Denver? I have to say I’m not the biggest fan of the East Coast, but you’ve got a decent pick of apostolic opportunities there. Happy feast day!
looking forward to the link. i heard a rockin’ homily here, reminding us that the holy family had their fair share of issues and it was how they responded to things that made them holy. VERY good reminder for me. especially as I thought about the very real feelings that Mary must have felt. did she long for a bigger family too?
I look forward to reading Archbishop Chaput’s homily!!!!!! Thanks for posting!
Batrice, just emailed a friend at the Archdiocese. I’ll post it as soon as I get it!
Glad you heard a lovely homily. Why is that such a rarity? Beautiful reflection on family size….not sure if she did. Her will was completely in union with God’s, but my guess is that she was judged for having a small family in a culture that saw fecundity as God’s blessing for a family, and barrenness as a curse.
